Diffuse axonal injury after a car accident

A car accident could pose very serious, even fatal, risks to the one involved. In a lot of cases, neck injuries resulting to spinal stenosis happens which is then followed by another set of symptoms caused by a number of factors.

First off, spinal stenosis is a condition where the spinal cords and nerves are narrowed and compressed. Lumbar spinal stenosis, or spinal stenosis in the lower back area could result to loss of bladder and bowel control, and abnormal pain or tingling sensation in the arms, feet, thighs and buttocks.

However, there are patients who exhibit other symptoms which cannot be diagnosed because of lack of facilities or lack of expertise and knowledge about the injury.

Check if you have these symptoms, and if you do, make sure to consult a specialist because these may be signs of diffuse axonal injury (DIA), an injury which cannot be detected in scanning procedures because the injuries are often microscopic. The following characteristics however, are typical causes of a DIA but for you to be sure, it’s better if an MRI or a more advanced Diffusion Tensor Imaging is done to you.

Symptoms:
shaking of hands during physical labor
shooting pains in the fingers especially in the pinky and the thumb
high blood pressure
pounding headaches
urinating every few hours
